FISSURE SEALING

WHAT IS A FISSURE?

If we observe, our back teeth look like a mountainous area: mountain peaks, valleys, ditches - the latters are the fissures. The role of this surface form is to grind food: if the surface of our molars were smooth, we would not be able to chew the food.

80% OF CHILDHOOD DECAYS STARTS FROM A FRISSURE

The fissures are often quite deep and narrow. They are so tight that your toothbrush bristles are unable to penetrate in them. We can chew the food excellently, but it is impossible to clean the plaque from there. It is no coincidence that 80% of childhood caries start from fissures. In addition, the enamel of fresh teeth remains immature, meaning that they have little mineral content, so they are more prone to caries for about 2 years.

FISSURE SEALING: TWO IN ONE!

On  one hand, we allow cleanliness by filling the narrow, non-cleanable part, and on the other hand, fluoride from the fissure sealing material is inserted into the teeth, thereby reinforcing the tooth enamel.

HOW DOES THE FISSURE SEALING HAPPEN?

We pre-clean the fissures thoroughly with a special powder. This is a very important step, because if the plaque is not completely removed, caries can start unnoticably under the fissure sealant. That is why it is only possible to close the fissures when the conditions are given.

Subsequently, the bottom of the small fissures is filled with furrow sealing material, thus cleaning the tooth will be easier. This material is a tooth-colored filler, often containing fluoride to strengthen the enamel.

IF THE FISSURE IS ALREADY DECAYED

If caries have already started, we use extended fissure sealing. This is more like a traditional tooth filling, as the caries must be removed with a drill and then the cavity must be sealed with fissure sealant.

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

Normal fissure sealing is completely painless without anesthesia also. Treatment is approx. takes 20-30 minutes. If extended fissure sealing is carried out, anesthetic is used like in case of a tooth filling.

OPTIMAL TIME FOR FISSURE SEALING

It is recommended that the fissure sealing is made within a maximum of half a year after the teeth are ruptured.

ATTENTION!

Many parents do not know that the first remaining tooth, nr. 6, does not have a primary tooth pair, so they wait in vain for the primary tooth to get out, and the permament tooth to rupture to its place. Many times, when they notice that the 6 is out there, they are already careless. The first remaining chewing teeth ruptures behind the primary teeth around the age of 6.
