TRADITIONAL FIXED ORTHODONTICS

THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED SYSTEM IN PREMANENT TEETH IS TRADITIONAL FIXED ORTHODONTICS.

At what age can fixed braces be used?
Fixed orthodontic devices can be used when the remaining teeth are out from the top to the bottom from seven to seven. There is practically no upper age limit for treatment.

ADVANTAGES AND RISKS

ADVANTAGES OF TRADITIONAL FIXED ORTHODONTICS

Fast and efficient.

It does not require any special energy input from the patient, because it is not removable, so the control power of the device can continuously affect the teeth.

RISKS OF TRADITIONAL FIXED ORTHODONTICS

Part of the root can be absorbed due to the constant force. It is much less risky if we use a soft power regulator self-ligating system instead of the traditional one.

It is also a disadvantage that there is no way to "grow" the jaws when all the remaining teeth are out, so we have to manage the space as it is. Therefore, tooth extraction is sometimes necessary. All this can be prevented by treating bad muscle functions in earlier age, even when facial development can still be affected. Learn more about myofunctional orthodontics.

In case of bad oral hygiene, the bacteria can penetrate around the brackets and cause decay, so in our clinic we pay special attention to the oral care training, regular monitoring and preventive prophylaxis and fluoridation treatment of our patients who are wearing the fixed device.

THE STEPS OF THE ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

1. ORTHODONTIC CONSULTATION

Before a conventional orthodontic treatment, you will receive a detailed treatment plan prepared by your orthodontist based on the following:

  • Personal needs assessment

  • Condition survey

  • Impression of the teeth

  • Panorama and TV X-ray or CBCT

  • Photo documentation

2. PLACEMENT OF THE DEVICE AND CONTROLS

The orthodontic appliance should only be placed once, but the thin metal arch over the brackets bonded to the teeth should be replaced from time to time to become thicker and stronger. The arches are usually exchanged in every 4 weeks.

3. AFTER THE TREATMENT

How will your smile stay perfect after treatment?

At the end of the treatment, you will recieve the so-called retention device to wear overnight. After removing the permanent orthodontic,  it ensures that the teeth are staying in their new position.

How long does it take to wear the night device?

If the normal operation of the muscles around the teeth (lips, nose, tongue) could be restored during the treatment, it is only necessary to wear the night device for a few months. Otherwise it will have to be worn even for life if we want to avoid relapse.

Can the wear time of a night retention device be reduced?

At Volom Dental, all orthodontic treatments are supplemented with myofunctional therapy. With this procedure, we eliminate the causes of the disordered dentures by restoring proper muscle functions. If this therapy is successful, the night device can be worn only for a few months.

ESTHETIC ORTHODONTIC DEVICE

Now it is possible to make the conventional fixed orthodontic device not only from the traditional metal material. You can also choose white porcelain or transparent sapphire crystal brackets at our dental clinic to make your orthodontics as effective, yet almost invisible.

MORE EFFECTIVE AND GENTLE ORTHODONTICS

One of the disadvantages of conventional fixed orthodontics is, unlike modern self-ligating and invisalign technologies, that it does not move the teeth gently, and that the brackets affixed to the teeth can damage the mucous membrane, especially in the first phase of treatment.

To prevent this, we offer our patients a special trainer with their fixed device, which covers the brackets, thus avoiding irritation of soft tissues. The simultaneous use of the trainer also accelerates the treatment, as it eliminates abnormal musculoskeletal disorders and eliminates the uncommon tooth tightening problems during orthodontics by slightly lifting the bite.
