FLUORIDATION

NATURAL FLUORIDE INTAKE IS HARDLY CONTROLLABLE

The effect of fluoride on enamel strengthening is supported by numerous scientific studies. Fluoride can enter the body in several ways. With food, drinking water, mineral water, salt, teflon pots, and - for larger children or adults - using regular toothpastes and mouthwashes.

Because individual fluoride intake is difficult to control and excessive intake is undesirable, it is important that everyone should use the toothpaste and mouthwash of their age, because their fluoride content is different.

Do not give fluoride toothpaste to a young child who cannot rinse.

DENTAL FLUORIDATION OF TEETH

Fluoride has long been used by dentistry to prevent caries, as it incorporates calcium into the enamel and strengthens the enamel. Preventive effect on caries only occurs on smooth tooth surfaces, not in the fissures or in the surface roughness.

Fluoridation can be accomplished by fluoride iontophoresis and in case of the smaller ones, by fluoride lacquer, from which fluoride flows into the teeth for months. Both require clinical conditions. Fluoridation is particularly advantageous if the tooth is prone to "dusting".

During Iontophoresis treatment, the device battery generates a current that helps fluoride ions enter the enamel.

FLUORIDE PILLS: ARE THEY ADVICABLE TO USE?

It is well known that the fluoride tablets has a narrow therapeutic dose, i.e. it is easy to overdose. The amount of fluoride added to foods and beverages should also be taken into account when calculating this dose. This is almost impossible, so other methods are more advisable (fluoride lacquer and fluoride iontophoresis mentioned above) that are used to put fluoride directly to the teeth and not affect the whole body.

WHITE SPOTS ON TEETH

Chalk white spots on teeth indicate a lack of minerals in the enamel, so the Tooth Mousse gel, which can be ordered at our clinic, helps.
