CYST OR GRANULOMA REMOVAL

CYST AND GRANULOMA ARE FOCUSES AS WELL!

Cyst or granuloma may develop at the root tip of dead or root canal treated teeth. In either of these lesions, root canal resection is commonly used, which means that the cyst or granuloma is cleaned by the oral surgery method and the root tip  is removed from which the process is started.

THE PROCESS OF THE SURGERY

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
As a first step, an incision is made on the gums, and then a special drill is used to cut a window in the bone under sterile conditions, thereby removing the cyst or granuloma using a curettage spoon.
With a drill we shorten the root tip. We never use a chisel for this operation to avoid cracking the tooth vertically.
Then we sew the wound with a few stitches.

Sutures are removed after a week, and the wound heals.

Among oral surgeries, this one may be the least stressful, in the simplest case, it takes approx. 20 minutes. For faster wound healing, we treat the wound with laser therapy.

Total healing, rebounding takes approx.  6 months, then it is advisable to make a control X-ray to make sure that everything is fine.

THE PROBLEM CAN RECUR

If the cyst or granuloma recurs, then either the treated tooth is become painful again, or we discover the change in the root apex on the control x-ray. In such cases, the solution is the resuscitation and retrograde root canal treatment, or the removal of the tooth. Before resection, if possible, we prepare a new, clean root canal filling to improve the healing potential.

Unfortunately, failure can occur during the most careful surgical treatment, which is due to the fact that few bacteria can remain in the root canal after the cleanest root canal filling. If the body's immune system is unable to cope with them locally, deep inside the bone, cyst or granuloma can recur.
